Rosario Mining District

GR Silver Mining controls strategic portions of the Panuco and Aguas Calientes Grabens within the Rosario District, surrounded by multiple historical artisanal gold-silver mines and abundant exploration targets.

Mining History

The Rosario Mining District is host to world-class precious metals mines and projects, notably, the historical multimillion-ounce Rosario gold-silver mine, whose operational life spanned over 250 years.

While La Trinidad has been the focus of artisanal mining activity over many decades, commercial operations began late in the 20th century. Anaconda Minerals Corp. was first to drill the project in the mid-late 1980s. After initially taking up an option on the Project in 1993, Eldorado Gold Corp. then commenced an open pit gold mine at La Trinidad in 1995, known as the Taunus Pit, with ore being processed via a heap leach operation. The mine operated until 1998, producing approximately 52,000 ounces of gold1.

Oro Gold recommenced mining operations at the Taunus Pit late in 2014. Gold output from the heap leach pads continued until late 2019 for a total cumulative production by Oro Gold of 112,000 oz gold2,3. GR Silver Mining completed the acquisition of the La Trinidad mine along with over 100,000 ha of highly prospective exploration concessions, in March 2021.

The Plomosas underground mine was operated successfully by Grupo Mexico between 1986 and 2001, when the mine was closed at a time of low commodities prices. GR Silver Mining acquired this project from First Majestic in March 2020.

GR Silver Mining’s San Marcial Ag-Zn-Pb resource is located only 5 km to the south of the historical Plomosas underground mine.

GR Silver Mining’s El Habal property and Rosario concessions border the historical Rosario Mine concessions, which currently are held by Fresnillo plc. El Habal includes historical artisanal workings (both surface pits and underground workings) and covers a geological setting and oxide gold mineralized zones analogous to Rosario’s reported ore geology.
